Wild and free, this catchphrase gives off a lot of meaning but looking at it on a positive side, this is how the young generation like us needs to live our lives. Wild and having fun with all the activities we can do, and free to explore the places we haven’t been. I’ve been through and visited almost all states in US as well as other countries like Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Mexico, Scotland, Australia, Japan and Hawaii. Don’t think that I can do this just because I’m rich, I’m just a middle class citizen and I work as a traveling consultant, internet programmer and a blogger. I just save money for travels, why? It’s because every time I travel, I see a lot of new things, culture, and ideas that changes my perspective in life in a positive way. So if I can do this, there’s no stopping you from doing it as well, for there are many reasons why you should travel while you are still young.
Traveling can help you become an open minded person
If I didn’t have the opportunity to travel, I would feel contented to what I am yet limited about my views and knowledge in life. It will be rather difficult for people who don’t travel on how to envision themselves interacting with new people or things which is outside their comfort zone. Traveling helps us overcome those fears and misconception and become more open minded about new ideas and beliefs while getting out of the stereotypical kind of thinking. “True knowledge does not come from book but from real life experiences”.
Traveling can make you a nicer person
There are times we feel overwhelmed about lots of stuff, and I’ve been through with it. Thinking about the future, making life choices and hard decisions, puberty, and a lot more. Unconsciously, these things affect us mentally to the point where we build a wall to protect ourselves making it harder for us to provide empathy to other people, or worse is that we can’t even develop new friends.
During my time of travel, I met a lot of faces, some are friendly while some are not. No matter who I met, I consider it as a great experience for I learned how to deal with them. Being more understanding, humble, and adaptive to a whole new environment are some of my life’s lessons during the trip. Traveling has great effects on my communication skills, way better than what I learned in class.
Traveling can make us braver and bolder
While traveling can make us nicer and humble, it can also make us feel empowered. When I arrive at home after a long, fun, and relaxing trip, I always look at the photos saved on my camera and reflect about the things I did during the vacation. Sometimes I get surprised, how did I do it? I never thought in my entire life that I was brave enough to dive inside a cage surrounded by sharks, to do mountain climbing, to look down from the tallest building. Looking back, it makes me realized that I am capable if I put my mind in it, and I can apply it in my daily life…. Of course, I know the limitations of what I can do and not foolish enough to risk my life.
Traveling is educational (literally)
I know there are some of us who don’t like history classes, and sadly I’m one of them. I always thought that those things are ancient and meant to be forgotten and I was wrong. History presents itself during our travels, it greets us in every places we visit. I was really fascinated about the subject during my trips in historical places inside United States as well as other countries. As I see historical landmarks, ancient artifacts inside museums, traditional places etc. I get more and more curious to the point that I make a research after I get home. I can say that traveling can push our history education to the horizon.
It’s not guaranteed that we can use our savings to travel once we get old
We may have the money, but do we still have the energy? We don’t know what the future lies ahead so why wait if you can do it now? Getting older just simply means more responsibility like getting married and having kids, paying bills, and ensuring that a good life is sustained through hard work. You will have little time for yourself, so plan and book that vacation trips you’ve been dreaming off while time is still your ally.
